The “A” Block
This is a chance to share thoughts, tips and advice for those in the TV news business. My colleagues and I will be writing about what we’ve learned and mistakes we’ve made along the way. I got the idea to do this because I have dealt with a lot of young people in the business who got good educations but haven’t gotten enough practical advice about what it’s really like to work in television news. If you are just getting started in “the biz”, welcome! If you have been here a while, let’s try to remember why we started in the first place.
I started working in a newsroom when I was 15, blacking tapes and laying countdowns while trying to come to grips with the fact everyone seemed to use the “f-word” in every sentence. I was hooked! Almost two decades later, I am still working in a newsroom as a sports anchor and reporter at WRAL in Raleigh, NC.
10+ Years working as on-air talent. I have also worked as a tape editor and as part of a floor crew.
I have a couple awards: 2014 Murrow, 2015 Emmy
2003 Graduate of the University of Florida. Go Gators!
Yes, I still “one-man-band” and I know how to edit tape-to-tape
